Dear Association Member:

First, for those of you who may not know, our Vice President Joe Hebert passed away on July 7, 2003 after a battle with cancer.  Joe was a tireless worker for the Association, particularly with compiling and publishing the Hebert genealogy.  As Association President I will miss his valuable counseling and he will be sorely missed by those of us who knew and admired him.  Our condolences to his wife Barbara, who is our Association secretary, and the rest of his family.

Members of the Hebert Association who attended a successful gathering in June at the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Celebration in Rayne, LA met and discussed the need to schedule a family meeting in October for the purpose of electing officers for the coming year and developing a plan for a family reunion in January (probably the Sunday before Super Bowl Sunday).  The CMA 2004 in Nova Scotia is rapidly approaching and many of us are formulating plans to travel to Nova Scotia to participate in the festivities, so the January family reunion will focus not only on sharing our genealogy and socializing but also making plans to attend the CMA 2004 celebration.  We will invite a couple of travel agents we hope will attend to respond to your questions about transportation to Nova Scotia.

The meeting has been scheduled on Sunday, October 5, 2003 at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville.  The meeting at the Acadian Memorial will allow those who have not been there recently the opportunity to see the newly installed Deportation Cross, and the family crests mosaics (that includes the Hebert Crest) in the meditation garden in the rear of the memorial.  The meeting will start at 10am, and end at 2pm.  Lunch, consisting of chicken salad sandwich trays and other finger foods along with vegetable and fruit trays and soft drinks, will be served courtesy of the Hebert Association.  It is recommended that each family bring a dessert to share with members present.

We realize that not everyone planning on attending will be able to write, e-mail, or call but in order for us to determine the size of the gathering to prepare the food, it is recommended that you RSVP by filling out and mailing, e-mail or call the following:

PS:  Due to a computer malfunction, those members who got a new membership free with the purchase of the book “The Heberts, Cajun and Louisiana” by Dr. Joe Hebert have been lost.  Please let us know if you are one of those who took advantage of the special offer so that we may credit you with your membership.
