ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: The annual meeting for 2004 will be held on Saturday December 11 at the Woodman of the World Hall in Maurice starting at 10:00 am. The Woodman of the World Hall is located on La. 92, 1/4 mile west of the US 167 signal light at 92. A meal is planned and will be served at noon. Family organizations are encouraged to invite their members, especially officers and directors. Speaker for the meeting will be Christopher Goudeau, Honorary French Consulate for Louisiana. Mr. Goudeau is a practicing Attorney with offices in Opelousas. Important items of business include proposed changes to CAFA By-Laws, election of directors and officers, and various reports on CMA 2004 and the French Immersion Programs. We will also have a report on the plans for the 2005 event to commemorate the 250 year anniversary of the deportation of the Acadians from Nova Scotia. The proposed changes to
the By-Laws: A. Present language in Article IX - Directors: 1. There will be a Board of Directors consisting of fifteen(15) members, elected at the Annual Regular Assembly of delegates, from among the delegates. 2. One-half of the original Directors will be up for election every two(2) years starting in year 2000. The Directors up for election will be determined by a random drawing of the original Board of Directors. The Directors serving will then serve a designated seat and those numbered seats will then be up for election. Seats eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen will expire in year 2000. Seats one, two, three, four, five, six and seven will expire in year 2002. Directors this elected will serve four-year terms. 3. A vacancy created on the Board of Directors, by death, resignation, or other cause will be filled by a simple majority of the Board of Directors from nominations by members of the Corporation. Such appointments will be for the time remaining until the next annual meeting of the Corporation, at which time nominations will be opened, and election held, to fill the seat for the remaining years of the vacated seat. B. Proposed changes are: Numbers 1, 2, and 3 above would be changed to read: 1. There will be a Board of Directors consisting of an appointed or elected board member from each of the organized member families of CAFA, Inc. An organized family is defined as a family organization with a slate of officers, with or without a dues structure, whose membership meets periodically. This provision would be voluntary and at the discretion of each individual member family. 2. Each organized family belonging to CAFA, Inc. will provide the name of one of it’s members to represent that family on the Board of Directors. This Board of Director appointment will take effect at the annual membership meeting. Board of Director appointments will be for a term of two years. The member family organization has the option of appointing a different member to the board, at their discretion, or renewing the appointment of the sitting member upon the expiration of the two-year term. 3. At any time that the number of Board of Directors so serving is below fifteen (15), the sitting members of the Board of Directors may appoint new members, by simple majority, to the board to bring the total number of sitting members to fifteen(15). + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Remember it is important that each family organization member of CAFA submit or nominate a name from their membership to serve on the Board of Directors according to the changes proposed. FRENCH IMMERSION: CAFA is continuing the program it started about 3 years ago by providing funds for materials of instruction to schools with French Immersion Programs. Letters went out to all schools with French Immersion Programs allocating $350.00 specifically for the purchase of materials of instruction for the current school year. Funds for this program come from different sources including family organizations. CAFA also received a grant from Entergy for this school year in the amount of $500.00 to be added to the material of instruction account. A full report will be given at the annual meeting. COMMEMORATION OF DEPORTATION: Plans are being made for the commemoration of the 250 year anniversary of the deportation of the Acadians from Nova Scotia. CAFA hopes to have more information at the annual meeting regarding specific information about date and location. We encourage all family organizations to participate in this event during 2005. ACADIAN MEMORIAL: The Acadian Memorial located in St. Martinville has announced the following activities for the commemoration of the 250 year anniversary of the deportation. l. January 19, 2005--Dedication of the family crest of past Acadian Governors and honoring, Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco’s family name crest. 2. March 19, 2005--First annual Acadian Memorial Festival, Theme: The commemoration of the 250 year Deportation of the Acadians. Note: For more

St. Martinville, OTHER NEWS CAFA ANNUAL MEETING: CAFA, Inc. will hold its annual meeting on Saturday December 11, 2004 at the Woodman Hall in Maurice starting at 10:00 am and lasting until approximately 1:30 pm. We encourage all family organizations to have representation and to be prepared to nominate a member of their organization to serve on the Board of Directors of CAFA. A short Board of Directors meeting will follow the general meeting. A meal will be served. TRAHAN FAMILY : The Trahan Family Association will hold their meeting and mini-reunion on January 8, 2004 at the WOW Hall in Maurice beginning at 10:00 am until approximately 1:30 pm.
