"Gazette Beausoleil"

   Volume V                                                                                                          Fall  2004

Membership meeting called for November 13, 2004 - Woodman Hall,    Maurice,  La.
President Charles Broussard has called a general membership meeting for 10:30 am
November 13, 2004 for election of Board of Directors. Following the
selection, the new Board of Directors will select a President to succeed Charles
Broussard, who has decided not to be a candidate due to travel and health concerns.  Charles was elected as President of "Famille Beausoleil" following the passing of J. Maxie Broussard.

Following the election of Officers and other Association business matters, a noon
meal of chicken and sausage gumbo will be served.  Cost for the meal will be $5.00 per person. (Note:  children under age of 12 eat free).  Meeting and meal will end at 1:30 pm.

Charles has declined the opportunity to remain on a permanent basis due to
health and travel requirements.

President's corner:
I would like to compliment all those who participated in, or took part in
the planning and successful staging of the "Congrès Mondial 2004" in Nova
Scotia. In the beginning, this project, like our event in 1999, looked like
an insurmountable task, and many felt it would be impossible to duplicate or
approximate those successes.  Sheila, her family, and numerous volunteers
performed in an outstanding manner, resulting in a huge success for all
attendees. I would point out that unlike Louisiana with its myriad of
Broussard Descendants, Nova Scotia has few families, and Sheila was able to
muster those few families into a cohesive group that exceeded all expectations.   I salute them all, and compliment them on this grand effort.

I was glad to be a part this event, and felt very honored to be able to represent
Maxie at this event, which he had so looked forward to attending. The
presentation of the "Beausoleil Awards" to Warren Perrin and Patricia
Resweber, the surprised recipients, continued the proud tradition Maxie
established for recognizing and honoring those individuals whose
achievements have helped all Acadians to promote the Acadian history,
heritage, culture, religion, and language of their ancestors.

I encourage all of you to view the photographs and stories of this, and all
past gathering on www.cafa.org, by selecting index of Acadian Families, and
scrolling to Broussard. I commend and thank Loubert Trahan for his excellent
work to our Broussard site. Note:  Simply click on "2004 Reunion Photos" on the Broussard Family Table of Contents page by hitting your back button.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing all of you on November 13, 2004 at our gathering in Maurice at the Woodmen of World Hall.
Charles Broussard, Interim President

Congrès Mondial-2004-Nova Scotia

The trip to Nova Scotia and attending the Broussard Reunion in Antigonish/Pomquet was a delightful and unforgettable event. Sheila Broussard and her committee did an outstanding job in organizing and staging this memorable reunion. Sheila's letter summarizing this historical gathering of Broussards is now on our web site. Log on to www.cafa.org/BroussardFamily.html and click on Table of Contents. The following are excerpts from Sheila's letter:
"A heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the Broussard Family Reunion held Aug 11-13 in Antigonish and Pomquet. By all accounts the event was thoroughly enjoyed by more than 270 people in attendance."
"We were honored to have Warren Perrin, an Acadian activist and the founder of the Acadian Museum in Louisiana, speak on the Proclamation from Queen Elizabeth II, and Stephen White, a very prominent genealogist from the University of Moncton, speak on Alexandre (dit Beausoleil).

There are two items on our web site. The first,  "Broussard/Beausoleil Nova Scotia Reunion 2004 Information"  contains Sheila's letter and the story and a picture of the Beausoleil commemorative plaque that is now mounted on the front of the Eglise Sainte Croix in Pomquet. The second is "Photos from 2004 Reunion".

Broussard Crest Lapel Pin
Sheila Broussard has ordered a special lapel pin commemorating the Broussard 2004 Reunion.  The pin features the Broussard Family Crest and is available in silver tone in a mix of high polish and matte finish, approximately 1 inch square.  The date and place of reunion is included on the back.  The pin can be received in time for Christmas if your order is received by October 21, 2004.  Cost is $10.00 US Dollars and includes shipping.  Order Blank and Address are at "PIN", SO CLICK ON.

Also available are tapes of the Broussard Reunion 2004 - Nova Scotia, so simply click on "TAPE" for the order form.

Sainte Famille Cemetery
As most of you already know, the Sainte Famille Cemetery, recently uncovered near Falmouth, NS is the burial ground of many of our ancestors, including Broussards.  A memorial sidewalk is being built from donations of $35.00 U S Dollars or $50.00 Canadian Dollars.  An inscription of your choice is engraved on the brick, with some limitation as explained on the order form.  Please read more on this worthwhile cause by surfing to www.saintefamille.com and help out this worthy cause.  You may print out an order form by clicking here: "Buy-A-Brick."

Genealogy notes:

Stephen White still has no clue to the identity of Francois Broussard's mother;
however, Stephen did provide another Broussard to our list when he stated
that Augustin Broussard (son of Charles Broussard and Agnes Landry), had a
brother named Simon. While both were orphaned young, Simon returned to Cape
Breton, where he married Jeanne Boudreau and they had numerous daughters but
no sons. Augustin settled in Louisiana.

I would also like to point out that while we cannot identify the parents of Francois Broussard, we can note these facts:  "If you are descendants of Michael Richard and Madeline Blanchard, or the descendants of Alexandre "dit
Beausoleil",  orJoseph "dit Beausoleil", or the descendants of Charles
Broussard and Anne Aucoin, you are also descendants of Guillaume Trahan."  If you
had the time to study your lineage, you would note that all Acadians are
cousins.

MERCHANDISE for November Meeting:
Afghans, Commemorative Coins, T-shirts, Georges Island book and other items
will be available for purchase at the November 13 meeting -  just in time for
Christmas purchases. The recently acquired booklet "Francois' Flight to
Louisiana" will be available for purchase at $8.00 each. This is an excellent booklet to introduce your children to the story of how our ancestors came to Louisiana.

With Christmas on the horizon, it is a good time to select and order your "Famille Beausoleil" items as Christmas Gifts.  By ordering early, you enhance your opportunity to get what you want, as well as insuring you of having it on time.  By ordering early, you also ease the workload on Velma during a critical time for mailing.
