President Richard Paul Broussard, family members of J. Maxie

rededication of the tree and plaque honoring J. Maxie Broussard, both which were
heavily damaged by a tragic automobile accident earlier this
year.

Corner A
proposal has been offered up by a member of the Board that I am totally in favor
of, and I will ask the Board to approve of said proposal for our November
4th Gathering: The proposal is for inviting all our Broussard and
Broussard Cousins that have served in Iraq to be our guests on November 4th,
2006 and
to partake of a free meal in their honor. I will cover this more thoroughly in
the Fall Issue of our newsletter, so please circle your calendars, and be sure
to read that issue carefully (as I hope you will all of our
newsletters). I thought in this writing I would attempt to cover some of the highlights that have occurred since last newsletter, and that included the re-creation of our ancestors arrival on the Bayou Teche at the Attakapas. Please note photo of our participation:
You
will note that for the recreation of this event those participating wore
costumes for that time period. Lastly
I would comment on the DNA Testing
members of the Francois Line and the Urbaine Broussard Line have
accomplished. The test was written about in the February Issue of Newsweek, and
for once we were provided an opportunity to establish once and for all whether
or not we were connected to the Urbaine Line. Those participating in test for
Francois Line were Robert Broussard of Lake Charles and Richard Paul Broussard
(yours truly); for the Urbaine Line the volunteer was Lawrence Broussard of
Conroe, Texas. The results were completed, and as we had been told beforehand,
the two lines are not connected, at least not for the past 600 years. For some
who anticipated a linkage, a
reworking for their tree, and for all, the search continues. It is hoped that as
more families get involved in this DNA Testing, that one day we will finally
have a solution to our elusive ancestors. Warren Perrin
notes: Some good news to share with
you concerning Warren and his contributions to all Acadians, and support of his
Broussard Roots. Warren has been selected to receive the National Achievement
Award by the American Assoc. of State and Local History in Phoenix, Ariz. in
September. More from
Warren Dr. Carl Brasseaux, Head of the Center for La. Studies and author of several Acadian history books, just provided me a copy of a very interesting letter (thought to have been lost but discovered in France) dated 1766 by Semar, an Acadian boy Jean Baptist Semer who came to La. with Beausoleil, to his father who was in France. It gives us much new information about Beausoleil and the efforts of the first Acadians to set up settlements in the Attakapas Territories. Example: he states that Beausoleil was their "leader and helped to pay the expenses for those who couldn't afford the trip to La.!" Wow! I sure would've loved to have included this information in my book. As requested by Dr. Brasseaux, I will do an over view of the materials for publication in the upcoming La. Historical Journal.
