President’s Corner

By Richard Paul Broussard
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks and the thanks of the Famille
Beausoleil
Association to all those who attended our meeting and crawfish boil. I would also
extend our thanks to the cooks, who did an outstanding job once again. Tremendous,
that is the best way I can describe the meeting and the meal.

It was a time that afforded the family an opportunity to thank two of our members, Charles
and Don Louis, and their wives for the job they have done in serving as our President and
Treasurer.

This was also a time to recognize new members, and young members, and to recognize the
Achievements of two of our young members, both of whom were recipients of recent awards;
Tristen Broussard and Jency Broussard, daughters of Kim Broussard. Tristen recently won a
Scholarship to St Anne’s University in Nova Scotia, and Jency was winner for her presentation
“Life and times of Beausoleil Broussard”.

We were privileged to have Donald Arceneaux bring us up to date on latest information on
Broussard Ancestors.

I would also like to mention that our next gathering is November 5, 2005 in Maurice,
at the Woodmen Of the World Hall. Please join us.

Acadian Redemption: From Beausoleil Broussard to the Queens Royal Proclamation
By Warren A. Perrin

The first part of this book defines the society into which Beausoleil was born and speaks of
his early life events and his militant struggles with the British who had, for years, wanted
to lay claim to the Acadians’ rich and profitable lands. Subsequent chapters discuss his
epic odyssey during which Beausoleil led a group of one hundred ninety three Acadians to
Louisiana, the New Acadia, with the hope that his beloved Acadian Culture would survive.
The last half of the book discusses the repercussions of Beausoleil’s life that ultimately
led a ninth generation descendant, Warren A. Perrin, to begin a legal action against the
Queen of England called a “Petition”. The “Petition” was resolved by the signing of the
Queen’s Royal Proclamation on December 9, 2003.

Thanks to the generosity of the author and the Acadian Heritage and Culture Foundation, Inc., all proceeds of this book are donated to the Acadian Museum of Erath, Louisiana.
