Joyeux Noel et la
Bonne Annee!
President’s Corner
By Charles Broussard
As I prepare for Christmas and a New Year, I also prepare
to relinquish the Presidency
of this “Famille Beausoleil” to Richard
Paul Broussard. I can say that I am confident in
knowing that Richard
Paul will be a great president, and that this organization will
continue
to grow and to achieve new heights.
I would also take this opportunity to give thanks for all
the blessings we have received
in our life time, and to remember what we
celebrate on December 25th; remember
Jesus is the reason for
the season! I would urge all members to be extra generous to the
needy,
and to pray for and to support our brave troops who travel in harms way.
Although Rose and I step aside from leadership
requirements, we are and will always be participants in the growth and
success of this great family.
Thank you all for the support you have provided me, and may
God Bless you all.
President Elect
By Richard Paul Broussard
To say I am overwhelmed to lead you would be an
understatement. I have big shoes to
fill, and unlike Maxie who succeeded
Brent, or Charles who succeeded Maxie, I am new
to this role, and will
ask for your help and support on a constant basis.
While the leadership changes, our goals remain constant, to
protect our heritage, our
history, our religion, and our language. We do
this in many ways, from promoting the
French Immersion program to
championing an “Acadian Heritage Day”, and hopefully
to make that day a
weeklong event.
We actively participate with CAFA (Confederation of
Association of Families Acadian),
CODIFIL (Counsel for Development of
French in Louisiana), the Acadian Memorial of
St Martinville; we
actively supported the Bi-Centennial of Louisiana purchase, and
likewise, we will join the above named groups in supporting the 250th
Anniversary of
the Acadian Deportation by the British.
As the President Elect, I ask all of you to assist me in
these many endeavors, and to
show all observers that “Famille Beausoleil”
only does things one way, and that is to the
very best of our ability,
and with pride.
Lastly, I would encourage all families to teach their
children the truth about the
Acadians, and to pass on our rich history
to them, that it will forever go forward.
Happy New Year, and I will see you all on March 5, 2005 at
our next gathering.

Request for recipes
I have been
talking to Sheila Broussard about doing a Broussard Ancestral
Cookbook combining recipes, stories and pictures, including
Broussards from all over, not just Louisiana. It would be more of
a historical cookbook to share our favorite foods and compare cultures.
I have already received several recipes from Sheila and her family.
Sheila suggested that I contact you about the possibility of placing a
request in the “Famille Beausoleil Newletter” for recipes, family
stories, and pictures. Additional info can include lineage information,
if known, or any items of interest. Information can be e-mailed to me or
mailed to my address. My email address is
cfontenot1@aol.com. My name and
address is: Tina Broussard Fontenot, 1003 Villacourt
Drive, Seabrook, TX 77586

Acadian
Redemption: From Beausoleil Broussard to the Queens Royal Proclamation
By
Warren A. Perrin
The
first part of this book defines the society into which Beausoleil was
born and speaks
of his early life events and his militant struggles with
the British who had, for years,
wanted to lay claim to the Acadians’
rich and profitable lands. Subsequent chapters
discuss his epic odyssey
during which Beausoleil led a group of one hundred ninety
three Acadians
to Louisiana, the New Acadia, with the hope that his beloved Acadian
Culture would survive. The last half of the book discusses the
repercussions of
Beausoleil’s life that ultimately led a ninth
generation descendant, Warren A. Perrin,
to begin a legal action against
the Queen of England called a “Petition”. The “Petition”
was resolved by
the signing of the Queen’s Royal Proclamation on December 9, 2003.
Thanks
to the generosity of the author and the Acadian Heritage and Culture
Foundation, Inc., all proceeds of this book are donated to the Acadian
Museum of Erath, Louisiana.
