"Beausoleil"  MEETING/REUNION
November 13, 2004 - Woodman Hall, Maurice, La.

The meeting was called to order by President Charles Broussard at around 10:45 am. He then asked Don Louis Broussard to lead the group in prayers – Prayer before Meal; Prayer for deceased Presidents Brent Broussard and J. Maxie Broussard.

President Charles then called on Genealogist Mitch Conover to lead the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance, also dedicated to our Veterans in honor of the Veterans Day celebrated this week. All who had served in the Armed Forces were asked to stand, whereupon a good number responded.

Treasurer Don Louis Broussard introduced a number of guests and new members and asked the crowd to introduce themselves, including place of residence. All told, 113, including the cooks and helpers, responded from throughout South Louisiana and Texas.

Mr. Warren Perrin, founder of the Acadiana Museum in Erath, La. then made a presentation of his new book - "Acadian Redemption, From Beausoleil Broussard to the Queen's Royal Proclamation.".  He thanked all who helped make his latest work a success – with research, photos, stories of the past.

Nominations from the floor were called for seats on the Beausoleil Board of Directors. A nomination committee had already made known their wishes for the new officers to be elected at the next board meeting, after the new members of the board would be seated.

Richard and Velma Broussard gave an account of the Broussard merchandise sales, including some just received pins from Nova Scotia, and several books on the life of Joseph "Beausoleil" Broussard and his ancestors and descendants. All very good gifts for the Christmas Season.

The treasurer’s report was next on the agenda, and was approved by the group.

Mr. A. J. LeBlanc then made a short presentation of his ongoing project of producing a CD with approximately 96 Acadian Names and their origin.

This was followed by numerous door prizes.

Mr. Joseph Castille, formerly of Lafayette, and now a resident of California addressed the group concerning his latest project – a movie about Evangeline, the heroine in Longfellow’s poem. Castile is a Spanish name, but Joseph has plenty of Acadian blood to make this a labor of love, especially of the history of the Acadians. He stated that history is what happens to everybody and all those here today are part of history. This will be a small budget film using local talent and locales, and will be directed by Mike Miley.

The next speaker was Mr. Eddie Richard who gave a short rendition of the upcoming CAFA events, including next year’s 250th year celebration of the Acadian Exile to be held in Rayne, La. at the Civic Center on August 27th and 28, 2005.

Loubert Trahan gave a short discourse on the upcoming CAFA meeting and election, Dec. 11, 2004, at the Woodman Hall in Maurice, La. At that meeting new CAFA board members will be welcomed from all organized Acadian families. Letters and e-mails will be sent to all such families this coming week detailing the upcoming change in CAFA’s make-up.

The makeup of the Broussard "Beausoleil" Family Board of Directors and newly elected officers will be published on this website as soon as the electing takes place.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 pm and the whole group enjoyed a delicious chicken and sausage gumbo prepared and cooked by Richard Broussard and his entire family.
