Acadian Heritage Tour

A group of mostly Acadians spent 15 days traveling around France visiting areas of importance to our heritage. The 48 travelers were from Louisiana, Texas, the Boston region, and South Carolina, USA, and also from Canada, Vancouver, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. The trip was an incredible opportunity to meet with Acadians who still live in France and visit museums and churches important to our culture. Breaux du Monde president Gayle Breaux Smith was on this journey.

Claire Taylor, report with The Advertiser, Lafayette, LA posted a Blog of the journey at    Also at The Advertiser’s web site stories and pictures are posted.

History of the Madawaska Acadians

Book of Acadian interest!

An Acadian Journey, Home at Last by Ollie Porche Voelker, 2012

This historic novel is written on a junior reading level and traces a young Acadian boy from Acadie to Louisiana. The story covers many of the areas the Acadians were exiled and gives "face" to the children, as well as adults, on this journey.

"Your story is lively and touching and it will, I hope, foster amongst its readers a feeling of pride towards their Acadian and Cajun heritage and history." – Maurice Basque, scientific advisor, Institut d’Etudes Acadiennes, Universite de Moncton, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada
