Breaux Du Monde

"La Journal Breaux"- Newsletter -January, 2000

Breaux du Monde Family Association held a meeting on January 15, 2000 to review the final results of the reunion held during the Congrč Mondial and to determine what course to take to keep the association as a working entity.  Mrs. Marie Jeannette Zerangue, President, presided.  Mrs. Zerangue announced that the active Board Members had approved a list of donations from the funds derived from the original membership, sales of T-shirts, yard signs, pins, flags, and a percentage of sales by Acadian Memorial, plus a grant from Congrč Mondial.  The following donations have been made:
City of Breaux Bridge for the enhancement of the grounds around the statue of Scholastique
 $3,000.00
Breaux Bridge Public Library        500.00
French Studies at LSU     1,000.00
Congrč Mondial        300.00
CAFA        500.00
TOTAL   $5,300.00
BALANCE ON HAND   $2,198.42

Mrs. Zerangue reported that the original Lifetime Membership of $300.00 paid by Evora Breaux Bonin, Stuart Paul Breaux, Arthur P. Breaux, Charles W. Breaux, M.D., Dickie Breaux, H. Lynn Breaux, Lynne Breaux, Washington, D.C., and Mayra Breaux Davidson amoounted to $2,800.  Two Lifetime Members, Evora Breaux and Mayra Breaux Davidson are turning their memberships over to the French Studies at L.S.U.  Therefore the total left in Lifetime Memberships is $2,200.00.  She expressed that this balance would allow the association to continue as a family unit and yet be able to contribute to the preservation of our French heritage.

Clarence Breaux reported that he had compiled a list of 205 persons who were not members, but were interested in becoming members.  He suggested that when a newsletter is prepared, that copies be sent to these persons.  He also suggested that the Board consider extending the current memberships for two years with no additional charge and a small charge for the new members for the two year period.  James Bourque reported that the Bourque Family had a similar arrangement.  President Zerangue recommended that the new board consider this proposal.

President Zerangue reported that the CAFA Web Site had been registered and can be viewed at www.cafa.org and that CAFA needs the Family's Web Site address so that it can be linked to the CAFA site.  The webmaster, Loubert Trahan, can be contacted at e-mail: lgtrahan@eatel.net.

President Zerangue announced that she was resigning effective the close of the meeting and that she had received written resignations from Secretary Sandy Mogavero Breaux and from Membership Chairperson Evora Breaux Bonin.  She also noted that she had only a verbal resignation from Dickie Breaux, but no word from Huey Henry Breaux.

Following a round of nominations, the following were elected to serve the organization for the next four years:

President:  Sallie Guidry Trahan, Breaux Bridge, La.
Vice President:  James Bourque, Youngsville, La.

Signed:  Yvonne Breaux Carter, Secretary
