| Bourque Reunion Review,
by Barbara Pothier
Hi Every Body - WOW what an event!
All went as planned with close to 1000
attending. It was hectic, as you can imagine, but well worth the
effort. It started off with a big turn out at the Wine & Cheese.
Everyone was so excited. We enjoyed Music by Delbert Bourque and his
musicians, talked and danced the evening away. Morning came early for a
few of us finalizing the preparations at the school, doors opened and they
came. Opening ceremonies brought everyone in the gym and it started
with speeches and on to the story of the Acadians
through young dancers and our local Chorale du sud-ouest
giving an outstanding performance. We also had the classrooms filled
with Genealogy information, workshops on Rappie Pie, Lobster Trap,
Quilting, Craft Sale, etc. We gave a Quilt Away that was created by
the Association Members and quilted by members and the community (photo
below). Lunch was served - buffet of Rappie Pie, Jambalaya, Pig
Roast, Strawberry Shortcake for desert. The line was long but when I
apologized to some they responded with – "the food was worth the wait."
Ralph Surette gave a detailed take on the Acadians to Nova Scotia and the
Bourques coming to our corner.
Don took a group picture outside, which is shown below, and finished with
a Mass celebrated by Msgr. Claude Champagne, assisted by Father Brien.
It was beautiful.
Met Jeffery Bourque and his wife Madeleine. They are so nice. Also
met Denis Desilet and his wife Angele - also enjoyed them very much. Made
friends with so many new relatives. Charles from Louisiana seemed to be
loving every minute. He was a lot of fun.
It was very emotional to see it all happening.
We are now gathering our thoughts together about the whole 4 years and
feel very blessed to have been part of this wonderful experience.
The local group that worked so hard for 4 years want to continue the
Association, for sure. We have some money left over which will be
mainly used to continue the research.
Sincerely, Barbara
